Where to stay in Sark & Herm

Hotels

There is a choice of several hotels in Sark, with all tastes and budgets catered for. Some of the best include the Aval du Creux (www.avalducreux.co.uk), located close to the harbour and within an easy stroll of the main Avenue; La Sablonnerie (www.sablonneriesark.com), an award-winning hotel with a good restaurant and beautiful views; and Stocks (www.stockshotel.com), an upmarket establishment with spa, gym and swimming facilities. Herm has one hotel, the White House Hotel, which has a tennis court, croquet lawn and outdoor swimming pool. For further information, contact the Herm Island Administration Office.

Bed and breakfast

Guest houses offering B&B facilities are numerous in Sark, and include Sue’s B&B and Tea Garden (tel: (01481) 832 107), a friendly, family-run affair; Clos de Menage Country House (tel: (01481) 832 091) and Beau Sejour (www.beausejour.sark.gg), a luxurious Jersey stone farmhouse. Some of the guest houses on Sark are run by families who have been living on same plot for hundreds of years, and the owners are happy to talk to guests about the island’s history

Camping

There are two campsites on Sark – Pomme de Chien (tel: (01481) 832 316), which has a range of fully-equipped tents as well inviting campers to bring their own; and La Valette (tel: (01481) 832 202), which is located on the east coast of the island with spectacular views towards Alderney and France. Herm has the Seagull campsite (tel: (01481) 722 377) in the centre of the island with 80 pitches and good facilities.

Holiday cottages: There is a liberal scattering of holiday cottages on both islands, with everybody from couples to large groups catered for. On Sark, La Moinerie Hotel (www.lamoineriehotel.com) has a selection of newly-renovated split-level guest cottages for families and groups. Alternatively, La Vaurocque (www.sarkholidays.com) near the centre of the island has seven cottages that sleep between two and six people and are ideal for families.
